There was something in the air, Serenity could feel it and she ran her hand down Cai'Daith's nose as the chestnut mare tossed her head in the air as they walked down to the pastures. The young woman was pleased that the weather was good enough to allow her two horses to spend a little time outside. "Herne's horns, Jera!" She laughed as her young mare easily jumped out of the pasture she had been in and trotted up to join them. "You are supposed to stay on the other side of the fence!" She rubbed the youngster's forehead as the bay cross-bred mare butted into her affectionately. "Come on, I'll open the gate so you can go back in."
After releasing Cai'Daith in the pasture and watching the two mare's canter off across the snow covered grass, the chestnut mare putting the bay in her place when they youngster tried to play boss mare. Serenity looked out across the fields as she tried to work out what it was that she could feel, as there was something there. She rubbed her thumb across the pads of her fingers, though the air wasn't charged, so it was a feeling, rather than an energy.
There was something in the air alright, she had spent the last ten minutes trying to grab Luna in the school horse pasture but to no avail. The flea bitten mare did not want to get caught. Molly couldn't even remember the last time one of the school horses made her work this hard to catch her. Someone novice must have ridden Luna if she was this determined to stand out in the pasture, that or the mare had somehow known that the teenager had been cheating on her with Major, the other school horse that Molly loved. That was a ridiculous notion though, right? Horses didn't get jealous over each other, just moody, and even if they did, did they really remember to take it out on their humans?
As radical as it sounded, Molly was beginning to suspected that. She tried again for the mare, but Luna just danced away and turned tail and bolted down to the other end of the pasture, head and tail high with defiance. A loud groan escaped her as she threw her hands up in the air, "FINE! I give up. You find somebody else to groom you, you lunatic!" And with that, she left and marched away with her own furry at the horse. Secretly, she hoped that by leaving the mare, it would give Luna a second thought and maybe when she showed back up five minutes later, the mare would be more amenable to the thought of being taken out of the pasture for a groom.
Still, Molly thought it best to get some back up because she was frustrated beyond belief right now and that always wasn't the best mindset to have around a horse. So the teenager left the pasture and started to head back to the barn. Maybe one of the stablehands could help her, or Shecanna or Nat despite it not being their job. Worse case scenario, she could always head to Ms. Clarke's office to see if Maeve was hanging around there. Instead though, Molly found someone else and she didn't have very far to stray from the pasture, "Excuse me!" she asked the woman, "Hi! Do you mind helping me get Luna? She's being a brat and I cannot catch her."

Serenity was leaning against the fence as she watched the two horse's galivanting around the pasture, laughing when Jera decided she was going to see what she could get away with and receiving a warning kick from the chestnut Selle Français in return.
She frowned as the energy in the air changed. "Excuse me!" She turned toward the voice, realising where the energy she could feel came from. "Hi! Do you mind helping me get Luna? She's being a brat and I cannot catch her." She gave the girl a smile. "Hi. Sure I'll help you." She looked at the teenager for a moment. "Before we head back over there though, you need to close your eyes, take a deep breath in through you nose and then breathe out through your mouth, pushing your tension out with it." The girl was frustrated, and that wasn't going to help convince Luna that she wanted to be caught. "I'm Serenity."
She headed toward the pasture with the lesson horses, though her attention was pulled toward the trees that bordered the property, though she shook the feeling off as she looked at the horses grazing in the pasture. "Your job is to make Luna want to be with you, more than she wants to be out here." She said with a grin, and a shrug. "If she wants to stay in here, make her work, show her that being with you is so much more fun!" What she did with horses, other people had coined as natural horsemanship, and made money off it, she just called it common sense.
At first, Molly became utterly convinced she had just annoyed this woman with her request as she turned to her and had a frown on her face. The teenager was taken aback, suddenly feeling guilty for disrupting her day for not being able to catch her own school horse. Before she could think about it too much though, the woman than spoke, "Hi. Sure I'll help you," she commented and Molly met her brown eyes, "Before we head back over there though, you need to close your eyes, take a deep breath in through you nose and then breathe out through your mouth, pushing your tension out with it." Those words made her face scrunch a little bit, unable to hide the contortion of her embarrassment, "Is it really that obvious?" Truthfully, Molly knew the answer to that one, but it was hard to accept it that Luna had gotten the best of her.
As the woman introduced herself as Serenity though, her eyes light up. She knew that name, mainly because it had been named dropped to her in the fall, "Oh! You're Maeve's friend." Molly assumed that was the correct label for her, although it was a little funny given that she was an older woman. Granted, Molly couldn't talk given that she had suffered from a school girl crush on her riding instructor Stephanie - who was also many years her senior. As the older woman gestured for her to follow, the teenager did so and it didn't take long for her to figure out that they were already retracing her path from the lesson horse pasture. Already that sassy fleabitten mare was coming into sight.
The horses were happily grazing, but it was as if Luna had sensed their presence, for the mare lifted her head again. Her ears twitched, pointing towards Serenity and Luna, and while she gave a gleeful whinny towards them, she did not budge. To Molly, it felt like another challenge from the mare, which made a dramatic sigh escape her. Besides the teenager, Serenity appeared to sense her thoughts but maybe that sigh gave her away,"Your job is to make Luna want to be with you, more than she wants to be out here. If she wants to stay in here, make her work, show her that being with you is so much more fun!" Dark brown eyes looked up at her, feeling a little bit uncertain given Luna's resistance to coming over and greeting her, "Really? Because she just seems to think this is a game...and it already feels like work chasing her around." Molly was already feeling sullen, maybe she should grab Major instead? So much for clearing her head for Serenity.

"Is it really that obvious?" Serenity gave a soft smile. "Only for someone who knows what to look for." She offered with a shrug.
"Oh! You're Maeve's friend." Her brow rose, not quite sure how to take that statement and she laughed. "I'm... going to take that as a compliment. She said with a grin. She like Maeve enough, and wouldn't say that the young woman wasn't her friend.
"Really? Because she just seems to think this is a game...and it already feels like work chasing her around." She gave her a soft smile. "Ah, but I'm not suggest that you chase her. just don't let her decide when she's going to change direction. In a herd, the alpha mare in charge, the stallions only job is to keep other stallions away, move the herd when there's danger, and make babies. The one who is really in charge, the one who keeps order and the mares and youngsters in line, is the alpha mare." She glanced at the horses in the pasture. "As silly as it sounds, the one in charge, is the one who can make the other one move their feet." She pressed her lips together, trying to think of a way to explain it so that it wasn't sounding like she wanted Molly to do all the work. "When you go in there, and Luna runs away from you. As soon as she stops to snack on the grass and you walk towards her again, she is the one in charge of the game, as she just runs again. What you need to do is show her than running is the wrong choice on her part, and being with you is so much easier. Do you have any treats on you?" She knew that she had a carrot in her own pocket if the girl didn't have anything. "Something to tell her she made the right decision, once she's caught." Yeah, she didn't do bribery on princess ponies, but she was happy to reward a horse for the proper behaviour. "I can catch her if you'd like a demo of what I'm talking about.
Molly watched as the woman smiled at her, "Only for someone who knows what to look for." She offered with a shrug in response to the obviousness of it all. Brown eyes stared at her for a moment before sighing, "Fine. Keep your secrets then," she responded, figuring that a quote from the great Frodo Baggins was utterly appropriate when talking to a woman who is suggested to have magical powers. It just meant that she was some sort of Gandalf equivalent in the teenager's eyes.
At least she had been right about Serenity being Maeve's friend, or maybe by her response, acquaintance was more like it. It was hard to remember the specifics when she had other things on her mind in the heat of the moment, and Luna being tricky was always something that would get the best of the teenager. Thankfully though, it seemed that the older woman may just have the spell to trick Luna into coming to her - or well, maybe it was more of a matter of showing the mare who's boss, which truth be told, the teenager was not always the greatest at doing.
As Serenity launched into an explanation, Molly was certain that she was following along. Although, this seemed a little difficult to her, or at least, it had a lot of moving pieces that she had to sort out. It must have known on her face as well, given that Serenity was soon asking her questions, "Do you have any treats on you? Something to tell her she made the right decision, once she's caught." Molly was quick to nod, "Yup! I have a peppermint or two in my pocket." Funny how she had also forgotten about those in the heat of the moment, "I can catch her if you'd like a demo of what I'm talking about."
She nodded, knowing that this was a moment where it was okay to admit defeat to herself, "Yes please. I swear I am a quick study once shown. I just...I think my feelings are still getting the best of me. And I am sure Luna will catch on the moment she sees me again." Well, maybe that was overdramatic, but Molly felt like the horses always seemed to know her mood - whether it was on foot or in the saddle, and then acted accordingly as such which always had its pros and cons. It was wonderful when she was sad and they were comforting her, but it certainly sucked when they were on a challenging streak and knew that they were getting under her skin.

"Fine. Keep your secrets then," Serenity couldn't help but laugh. "I studied psychology, so profiling people comes naturally." She offered, and it was as close to telling people she was an empath that she got, as her profiling skills came from her natural skills too.
"Yup! I have a peppermint or two in my pocket." Serenity grinned, she too always had something in her pocket, which always raised eyebrows if she had to empty her pockets to find something at work, and pony nuts or peppermints came out - which is why she tried to make sure she changed before coming to the yard. "Treats are great, as long as your friend isn't anticipating that they are always on hand."
"Yes please. I swear I am a quick study once shown. I just...I think my feelings are still getting the best of me. And I am sure Luna will catch on the moment she sees me again." Reni gave a soft smile as she walked to the gate and then paused. "I grew up in a small town in West Virginia, and the kids at school weren't always nice about my family, and the company we kept, and I'd come home in a foul mood. Because we retrained problem horses, I couldn't go into the pastures when I was in a mood. Dad taught me a trick, where I pictured that the gate." She drew the outline of a doorway around the gate. "Is a doorway into another world. A world where nothing before the moment I walk through the gateway exists." She grinned and shrugged. "Picture yourself walking into a bubble. I can even tell you my secret mantra." Mantra, spell, semantics.
Taking the mare's halter and lead rope, Reni let herself into the pasture and took a moment to survey what was happening, making no attempt to hid the things she was holding, and then made her way to where the grey mare was grazing. She chuckled and shook her head as the mare lifted her head enough to move forward a couple of steps before she resumed grazing, though her ears were locked on the woman.
It didn't take long before Reni hand the halter over the mare's nose, after a bit of moving around the pasture, though she'd done this a few times before and knew how to get the mare to move exactly where she wanted her to go, making sure to let the mare know that she was only going to stop when she was told she could, and she offered the mare some apple and cinnamon treats now that she had the halter on her and clicked her tongue as they headed toward the gate. "I think she enjoyed that more than she should have."
Molly was surprised when the woman laughed at her comment, but perhaps it must have looked funny to Serenity see the teenager sulk and quote Lord of the Rings as a comeback. This was already turning into quite the exchange as the older woman commented that she profiled people. She could not help but to arch an eyebrow at that one, "Profile people?" Serenity appeared to get curious-er and curious-er by the second. It also reminded her of a certain American TV show that one of the local channels aired for marathons at a time, "So...you're both a horse whisperer and Criminal Minds?" She asked now, following after Serenity as they made their way back to the pasture.
As she confessed to always having a peppermint or two on her, the teenager listened to Serenity's words, "No, I don't think Luna or Major always expect them. Maybe after a good ride and untacking. I do try to not give them out willy nilly," despite all of the temptations. Both horses tended to be gentle when snagging snacks out of her hands, Major more than Luna. But Molly was always easily entertained by how their ears pricked when they saw the snacks and then rub of their soft muzzles against her hand for the split second before they pulled away with their treat.
They made it to the gate now of the pasture. Brown eyes looked back out to Luna, who looked to be happily grazing. While the fleabitten gray mare didn't acknowledged their presence, Molly was certain that she knew that they were back again for her. She handed off the halter and lead rope as Serenity told her story now. Ah! West Virginia. So that explained her accent. The older woman was from America. Her nose crinkled a little though as the explanation went on, "A doorway to another world?" Browne eyes stared at Serenity for a moment before looking to the pasture, "So...the gate is the other world? Like...a transporter?" This sounded like a fairytale, or at least the synopsis to one of her Young Adult novels when she was feeling fantasy over supernatural and mystery.
Maybe this would not be a quick study, if it meant figuring out how to let go of her feelings, something that Molly quite frankly, was not always the best at doing. Serenity left her side now, and was in the pasture and approaching Luna. The mare looked to the woman, before returning to her grass, but Molly saw how those ears were cocked towards Serenity now - it was a sign that the teenager knew well. Her horse was about to play some games. But it wasn't long before Serenity seemed to have the tables turned. Luna wasn't going where she herself wanted to go, Luna was going where the woman was deeming her to go which appeared to take the fun out of it all for the mare.
And then they were at the gate now, Luna securely in the halter and lead rope, munching down on treats as the reward for being caught as Serenity commented, "I think she enjoyed that more than she should have." As upset Molly had been at the mare, she could not help but to laugh, "I think you're right. Although, I could see by the end, you took the wind out of her sails when she realized that she was following your lead and not the other way around." Molly leaned on the gate now, her brown eyes looking at Serenity before moving to her mare now and said wistfully, "That was amazing though. I certainly wouldn't have pulled that off."

"So...you're both a horse whisperer and Criminal Minds?" Reni rolled her eyes, not unkindly, and laughed. "For your information, I'm a horse listener, not a horse whisperer. And if you really want to blow your mind, I actually trained at Quantico, and yes, the inside of the federal building looks exactly like it does on the TV show." She had been sadly disappointed that it had been so, well, boring. "I'm not a Federal Agent though, just a police officer. Though, yes, profiling just like the BAU do, I'm trained in reading people."
"A doorway to another world? So...the gate is the other world? Like...a transporter?" Reni laughed and shook her head. "Not quite another world. More like an emotion dreamcatcher. I walk through it and any negative emotions will stick to the outside of the doorway, waiting for me until I've finished with the horses." Yes, she knew exactly how crazy she sounded, and she didn't care. Her eyes sparkled with mischief. "If we have time later, I'll show you how to create a ball of energy between your hands." Simple children's games were always fun.
"That was amazing though. I certainly wouldn't have pulled that off." Reni gave a soft smile, and a theatrical curtsy. "Don't sell yourself short." She said softly, turning serious again, as she offered the girl the lead. "I'm sure you can do the same thing. It takes a few times before the horse works out that it's easier just to come up to you if they don't want to have to more work than they have to." She rubbed Luna's nose. "She has a beautiful face. It says a lot about her."
The teenager was actually surprised when Serenity corrected her, stating that she was a horse listener and not a whisperer. Molly couldn't help but to make a face, mostly out of confusion, "There's a difference?" Truth be told, they sounded like the same thing to her. But she knew better than to ever sound remotely disrespectful to an adult, because even Molly knew when to admit that she didn't know everything, and simply ask more questions in order to uncover the truth. It was hard to keep civil though when the older woman confirmed that she was both a profiler and had been to Quantico before like in the television shows, "Man, you're like a certified BAMF then." And perhaps really was just the person to help her with her day.
The laughter that followed Serenity signaled to the young teenager that she must have been a bit off when she was trying to figure out this whole mystical doorway business, “Dreamcatcher, huh?” Molly mused out loud, mostly to herself though as she mulled it over. Her brows furrowed a little though at the idea of retrieving the emotions again once she was done with the horses, “But…. don’t you always want your emotions to stay away from the horses?” After all, she had always been told that if her negative emotions were going to get the best of her, then maybe she shouldn’t ride the day. Granted, the older woman seemed to have a different way of thinking compared to most. It showed even more when a rather mischievous smile crossed her face, “Balls of energy? Perhaps…would that help me find ghosts?”
Serenity must have been used to wowing teenagers when it came to getting their horses, since she did a small curtsy before negating any negative thoughts that Molly might have had about her earlier failure. When the lead was offered, the teenager did take it gently from her, "I'm sure you can do the same thing. It takes a few times before the horse works out that it's easier just to come up to you if they don't want to have to more work than they have to." Molly herself wasn’t so certain about that, her lips twisting as dark brown eyes looked from the older woman to her mare, “If you say so,” after all, Serenity had made it look like a piece of cake. But even she knew that Serenity had time and experience over her, and while it sucked to not be amazing at everything, Molly was certainly determined to put the work into it so she wouldn’t have to worry about help again. Laughter escaped her now, “She is beautiful, but I think her face always says she’s a trouble maker.” A snort escaped Luna at that comment, perfectly timed.

Reni shrugged. The term horse whisperer gave people the idea that you told the horses what to do, whereas telling them that you listened to the horses let them know that what you were doing had nothing to do with whispering things to them. "Man, you're like a certified BAMF then." Her eyebrow arched in amusement. She'd heard the term before, and not often said as a compliment, though she laughed and shook her head in reply to Molly.
“But…. don’t you always want your emotions to stay away from the horses?” Reni grinned and nodded. "Thus the doorway." She said, pointing at the gate. "My emotions are out there, being held in a bag of energy, waiting for me to pick it up and deal with it when I leave." Her brow lifted again, because she realised that from what she had said, the energy would come back to her as she left with the horse. "The horse acts as a buffer, and the energy can't touch me when I'm leading the horse." She shrugged, it had made sense when her dad had taught her about it, but that was probably because they always talked about stuff like that, so it was her normal, and not so fairy-tale. “Balls of energy? Perhaps…would that help me find ghosts?” She laughed and shook her head and then paused to consider the girl's words. "Well... it would, if the ghost was corporal enough and you needed them to back off."
Reni ran her hand down the mare's nose. "It won't work if you don't think it will. It worked so well for me because I walked into the pasture with a game plan, and knew exactly what I wanted Luna to do, and I had the belief that she would. The instant it seemed she had other ideas, I raised my energy and Luna realised that I meant business." Being shorter than the average height was never easy when it came to working with horses, as they easily outsized you, but being able to raise your energy, you would make yourself appear bigger than the horse. It's why ponies were often the rulers of the pastures when they were turned out with horses, because they had big energy to make up for their small size. “She is beautiful, but I think her face always says she’s a trouble maker.” Reni crinkled her nosed and laughed. "There's nothing wrong with a little spice to go with the sugar. Do you often hunt for ghosts?"
"Corporal ghosts? Is that such a thing?" she asked, momentarily getting distracted by the lesson on horses. She had never thought of them like that. Wait, focus, before she got too sidetracked about ghosts, Molly knew she had to absorb the information on getting a horse. This was all a very curious way to go about getting a horse from the field, and while it probably wasn't fool proof, at least not to Molly's skills quite yet, the teenager could not argue that it was ineffective. Her pride and ego was hardly even hurt, given that Serenity's age meant that the had the wisdom of horses that Molly just didn't have at sixteen going on seventeen. This would certainly give her something new to work on as far as ground work went, "Well, this certainly is an eye opening way to think about it," she mused out loud, "I'll have to practice it on my own now too, given that I am quite certain that Luna will give me many more opportunities to practice."
As for the sugar and spice, laughter bubbled out of her, "You're right, I cannot argue with that. At least, not when it comes to Luna." And while the mare wasn't her horse per say, she belonged to the stables, she couldn't help but to feel like she was exactly that. Molly may not exactly be as horse crazy as say the main character of a book or a tv show, but she liked to think she was just crazy enough to think she had a pretty good bond with a lesson horse. And then there was the ghost hunting question. Laughter bubbled from her, and Molly was uncertain on how she felt being asked this question by an adult, but Serenity seemed cool enough, "I admit my only ghost hunting so far is that of an equine ghost, and watching Supernatural. But I like to think it's a hobby I wouldn't mind exploring a bit more! Maeve gave me some creative ideas to explore in the summer time by myself if I can save the money."

Heat hit Reni's cheeks as she realised she may have said a bit too much about ghosts than she should have, and decided that now probably wasn't the best time to move off on that tangent. She'd be happy to talk about it later though, if Molly brought it up again, as she'd come face to face with a spirit in the past that had been a little more... well, real than it should have been. She grinned and nodded, pleased that it seemed that the girl wanted to at least think about her approach. "If it helps, you could ask Naomi, if you can put up a couple of break fences to give yourself a smaller area to work in when you are starting with the 'being with me is more fun than working' game." It was easier to work with a horse in quarter of the pasture, rather than the full pasture.
Reni rubbed Luna's forehead, the mare had good amount of spunk, the only mares she'd met who didn't have that spunk, had broken spirits. Her brow rose in question when the topic moved back to ghosts. "An equine ghost? Where, how, when?" She laughed, knowing she sounded like an over-excited child, and took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. "Sorry. An equine ghost sounds like an interesting way to enter ghost hunting. I come to know Maeve pretty well since she started riding here, so I can't think that any of the ideas she would have suggested would be anything, as a local law enforcer, I would have to caution you against. I'm curious to know what you have in mind for the summer." Part of her was curious, and that child that was still in her wanted to join in on the adventures, she had some holiday time that she needed to take.
She could not help but to notice how her question seemed to make the older woman blush, and Molly wondered if she may have accidently and innocently stumbled upon something that was not known to the ordinary person. While the teenager was dying to ask more questions of Reni and why her face contorted the way it did, even Molly knew better than to push her luck. There had been a lot of learning these past few months due to various projects and her own curiosity when it came to interviewing, and her last encounter left her with no information other than a new skin care regime, which while nice, had not been the point.
Dark brown eyes looked to Luna now, who appeared perfectly content with standing by them now thanks to Reni's excellent work in persuasion, although Molly could not help but to wonder how long that might last. Perhaps they should start moving to the stables, at least then, they could continue talking and get out of the cold. Not to mention, Luna would realize that a job was coming up, which had been the whole point of his excursion in the first place, "Ah! I should ask Naomi. Or perhaps, maybe take her to the round pen? It seems big enough." Less distractions too, but perhaps it might be too boring.
Molly supposed that she wasn't surprised when her mention of 'Ghost Horse' got quite the reaction out of the older woman. At this rate, the teenager was becoming quite convinced that she may be the only person who knows about Ghost Horse, but at least she was educating people, "Yes! He died on the lands here. His owner was shot while riding him, and he carried them away but they eventually got separated. I think he's trying to find them." It also helped that lately, people have been saying that the Seven Oak's trails have felt 'off' so that had to mean something. Of course, that was a Hickstead adventure just waiting to happen.
At her summer adventures though, Molly nodded towards the barn, "I'll tell you while we walk. I am getting a little cold out here," she commented, feeling a little embarrassed. With Luna in tow, the teenager went back to launching into her idea, "Well, Maeve brought up the Isle of May and its ley lines. I thought it might be interesting to check out! Plus, there's a ferry from Edinburgh, and since I live in Inverness during the summer time, I can take the train up to go on this adventure." Of course, there was one problem other than money, "Unfortunately, Maeve can't come with me. So either I'll be going out alone or I will have to see if I can recruit one of my friends." Maybe Janie and Oliver would be willing to join her.

Serenity nodded and grinned, her eyebrows arched. "The round pen sounds like a good idea, other than the fact that you would have to catch her first to get her to the pen." She offered with a shrug. "Might just be easier to ask Mik if he can set aside some standards and a reel of tape that you can use as needed."
Her brows lifted as she listened to the tale of the ghost horse and nodded her head, lips pursed. The tale was similar to many other ghost horse stories, but she decided this would not be the best time to bring that up, as she wasn't one to squash other people's happiness. Plus, Reni could have a look through the archives at the station and see if there was any truth to the story. Even if it was a cold case, hadn't been solved, a gunshot would have at least been looked into, and she would be able to find the name of the rider. "Depending on how long ago it happened, the horse was probably a stallion." She offered, as men tended to ride stallions way back when, as it was a sign of manliness.
She smiled and nodded, falling into step beside the girl and her horse. "How much do you know about ley lines?" She asked. Despite being a Yank, the history of ley lines had been a part of Reni's lessons, as there were well known standing stones throughout Europe, and everyone knew about Stonehenge - the most famous standing stones, no matter where in the world you were from. And while she had never been to the Straight Path herself, she believed that the lines were a form of energy, and her inner-child was keep to go and find out. Sounds like it will be quite the adventure. Just make sure you don't steps into any fairy rings that you find, or walk through a Yew Tree that's on the Ley."
